“Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.”
—Doctrine and Covenants 4:1

We live in an age where connection has never been more instant or far-reaching. Social media—so often spoken of in terms of distractions, noise, and vanity—can also be a powerful tool in the hands of those who seek to do good. As members of the Lord’s restored Church, we are called to participate in a “marvelous work,” and remarkably, one of the most accessible platforms for that work today is social media.
Viewing low-loop Social Media Through a Spiritual Lens
Doctrine and Covenants 4:2 reminds us, “Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength.” This verse challenges us to consider not just if we serve God, but how we do it. In recent years, I’ve seen incredible examples of disciples of Christ using platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube to share their testimonies, uplift others, and invite the Spirit into places that are often spiritually barren.
I’ve seen:
Short, heartfelt testimonies that reached thousands who would never step into a church building.
Simple scripture-based posts that sparked meaningful conversations in comment sections.
Faith-filled reels and videos that offered hope to those struggling with mental health or loneliness.
Missionaries sharing their daily efforts and spiritual insights, reminding us that God’s work is alive and thriving.
These moments aren’t anomalies—they’re evidence that the Lord is using every tool available to bring about His purposes. Social media, when used with intention and the Spirit, becomes more than just a platform. It becomes a pulpit.
My Role in This Work
Verse 3 of the same section states, “Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God, ye are called to the work.” That means anyone with a desire can play a part—no formal calling needed. For me, that means using my digital presence to reflect light rather than amplify noise. It means sharing scriptures that have helped me through hard times, highlighting acts of kindness, or simply being a voice of peace amid contention.
I want to be someone who contributes to this marvelous work, not just as a passive consumer of content, but as a creator of good. Whether it’s posting uplifting thoughts, bearing testimony in a comment, or supporting others who are doing the same, I want to show that discipleship isn’t limited to a chapel. It continues in every post, share, and interaction.
A Call to All Digital Disciples

If you’ve ever wondered how to “do more” for the Lord but felt limited by time, calling, or circumstance, look no further than the phone in your hand. Start small. Share a scripture. Post a quote. Bear a simple testimony. You never know who needs exactly what you’ve been inspired to say.
The internet may be vast, but God’s reach is greater. A marvelous work is coming forth, and we each have a role to play. Let’s choose to be voices of faith, hope, and truth in a world that desperately needs all three.
